Colorful Garden-Glam Greenhouse Wedding at Avent Orangery in Kansas City

Eric and Maya’s wedding was what garden-glam dreams are made of: bold, romantic, and bursting with color. Set inside the striking Avent Orangery, a greenhouse-style venue tucked in Kansas City, this wedding brought together modern design, heartfelt moments, and some of the most joyful florals I’ve ever created.

From the floral-wrapped signage to the hanging installation with disco balls (!!), every detail felt vibrant, intentional, and uniquely them.

A Full-Circle Floral Moment

Maya’s wedding wasn’t just another project — it was personal. I’ve known Eric since I was born (our moms are best friends), and I met Maya in college while they were dating. Fun fact? She actually took Intro to Floral Design at Mizzou and I helped TA her lab! Watching her go from student to bride and getting to design florals for her wedding was such a full-circle moment.

Maya’s vision was clear from the start: she wanted statement florals that felt bold, cohesive, and joyful. She came in with big ideas and total trust, which gave me the creative freedom to really go for it. Together, we worked visually—using inspo boards, mockups, and color stories to make every decision with confidence.

Vibrant Blooms in a Greenhouse Dream

The floral palette for the day was playful, artistic, and packed with texture — featuring shades of bubblegum pink, hot pink, coral, soft peach, lavender, periwinkle, and cornflower blue, paired with whimsical touches like preserved hanging amaranthus and fluffy carnations in color-blocked clusters. The result? A design that felt modern, joyful, and completely one-of-a-kind.

We created a massive ceremony installation framed by Avent Orangery’s floor-to-ceiling windows, followed by a hanging floral piece with disco balls that hovered over the reception dance floor. Yes, it was as fun as it sounds.

Candlelit tables, floral-wrapped signage, and a dreamy sweetheart table helped pull the entire story together. It was the kind of design that felt alive—like it was blooming right out of the venue itself.

A Couple That Led with Joy

Maya and Eric’s day was filled with love, laughter, and a whole lot of happy tears. Maya had been dreaming of this day since she was a little girl, and seeing it all come to life—especially the florals—was one of the most special moments of the day.

Her reaction on the wedding day? Unforgettable. And it didn’t stop there — she later told me, “It was beyond anything we could have dreamed of!! We still talk about the flowers regularly.”

That kind of lasting joy? That’s what it’s all about.

The Reception: Disco Balls, Candlelight, and a Sweet Surprise

After the ceremony, the Orangery transformed into a full-on celebration. The reception space felt lush and inviting — lit by flickering candles, grounded by soft linens, and elevated (literally) by the bold floral hanging install above the dance floor. It was romantic, joyful, and totally alive with color.

But even more than the visuals, it was the emotion that stood out. One of the most touching moments came during the reception when Maya surprised her mom with a mother-daughter dance. Before they danced, Maya gave a heartfelt speech about how her mom is her best friend — there wasn’t a dry eye in the room (mine included). It was the kind of moment that reminds you what weddings are really about.

Between the disco balls and the happy tears, it was a reception full of love in every form.

“I came in with a big vision and bold ideas, but I wasn’t totally sure how it would all come together—or if it was even possible within my budget.

Seeing the florals on our wedding day was one of the most jaw-dropping moments. Everything we had dreamed up came to life, and Amberlee exceeded my expectations tenfold. The flowers were beyond stunning—I couldn’t believe it was real!

I also loved how visual the process was. The inspo boards made it easy to see what we were discussing, which helped me make changes and clearly communicate what I liked and didn’t like.

Take the leap and reach out! Amberlee exceeded my expectations tenfold. She brought my vision to life and I have never seen more beautiful flowers before. Floral Stories is so creative and talented — just start dreaming together and she will take care of the rest. I cannot recommend her enough!”

From the Florist

As a florist, this is the kind of wedding I dream about — bold in color, full of trust, and deeply rooted in meaning. Maya and Eric gave me complete freedom to go big, and that kind of trust makes all the difference. Every color choice, every bloom, every detail was intentional — and getting to bring that vision to life for such a sweet, sentimental couple? I’ll never forget it.
